"Episode 1" (1화; 1hwa) is the second released chapter of True Beauty by Yaongyi. 6 years before the current timeline, Jugyeong is a middle schooler who gets bullied extremely often. After being horribly rejected by her first crush, she turns to online media for help and realizes that makeup is exactly what she needs.

Summary[]
A flashback to 6 years ago is shown with Jugyeong listening to rock bands. She states her life as a senior in middle school is good, as she could listen to whatever music she wanted and watch as many cartoons as she liked. Jugyeong then sits in class listening to music reading a comic when 2 bullies come along. They insist she go and get them kimchi dumplings and she goes at the cafeteria to get her some. A guy from the cafeteria then trips her, and she drops the dumplings and bruises her knees. He then hears her music and says she has a great taste in music.
Jugyeong says that her and the guy get along well together and she begins to develop a crush, and wonder if he likes her. She then gets tickets to a rock band, and decides to give them to him. She then sees Semi Lee, and her friends are asking if she is dating the guy from the cafeteria. Jugyeong throws away the tickets, and insists she could never get a guy being ugly.
Jugyeong then rushes home and demands to her mom and sister Heegyeong to get an eye lift. Her mom then denies it and Heegyeong states she is hitting puberty. Her brother Juyoung then states she would be ugly even if she got an eye lift. She then goes into her room and starts to cry until she looks at her phone. Jugyoung then posts on an anonymous forum, and a person comments if she knows how to use makeup. She then sees someone can look ugly and wear makeup and be pretty.
